Music Video Analysis

This is an analysis of the music video Nines Yay

The setting of the music video is set in a the local area which Nines lives in. Most of the shots are taken out doors.

The music video starts with Nines walking into a corner shop. He buys a drink and then gives the shop keeper a handshake. This is interesting as it shows that Nines must have a good relationship with the shop keeper. It has been set very good as it is in Nines area, Church road. This scene shows the respect he has for the shop keeper. Usually Nines comes across as a hard person who is not very liked by people. This soon follows to Nines walking into a barber shop. Nines walks into the barber shop and kisses a women and shakes the men in the rooms hand. This again is showing that Nines is a very close person to people around the local area of Church road. We get a view as Nines in the music video, him looking at people playing around. This music video has a girl actor in it as well. The girl is the girl he is talking about the music video.

The camera work of the music video uses a range of close ups to show Nines and the girl in the scene. With the cuts from Nines to the girl, they have never crossed paths in the video. The girl was acting out a lot of what Nines was saying, such as "snap chatting her whole life." This is a narrative as well as a performance.

In the music video Nines tends to be in most of the shots. Perhaps this is because the music video is about the yay (cocaine). However. the lyrics were mostly about the girl. This makes it seem like that Nines is calling her the yay. Which cocaine turns people into crackheads. So the music video he is basically saying he fell in love with a Crackhead.

The shots taken are point of view shots of Nines. This enables the audience to get a view of what Nines is seeing. A range of camera work has been used, as mentioned above medium close ups have been the main used to show the Nines and the girl. Other shots have been used such as, low angle shots and tracking.
